3. speaking out against injustice

In this episode, Danielle Sydnor, president of the Greater Cleveland chapter of the NAACP, shares how each of us can use our voice to make an impact in the fight against racial injustice.

Highlights:
"We have a voice and we have an obligation to be an advocate in whatever space we show up in."
"We live in a democracy. The only way this democracy serves the purpose of the people is if we show up and use our voice in all the spaces that we do life."
"Dig down deep into courage and use your voice. [That will] allow people ... to get the correction and feedback they need to become better and improve."
"Even though it's much easier to go through life and not say anything, think about how much more impact we can have if we do the things that make us uncomfortable."
"You don't have to be at every meeting or march, but find the the thing you're passionate about and find an organization that's doing that."

4. how to project confidence online

In this episode, I share 5 ways to project confidence online ... even if you don't feel it.

Here's a peek at what we covered:

Confident people are seen as:

  • Persuasive

  • Influential

  • Inspiring

These are the same kind of people that:

  • Land the job

  • Close the deal

  • Make connections

  • Gain respect

  • Earn trust

Even if you feel like you don't have any of these qualities, you can learn them through practice and awareness

1. Pleasant resting face

  • This communicates positivity and charisma

2. Take up all of your space

  • To appear more powerful, sit up straight with your chest forward

3. Give and receive eye contact

  • This is a key non-verbal cue that communicates confidence and assertiveness

4. Project your voice

  • Talk a little louder and slower than you're used to; breathe deep from your diaphragm

5. Get comfortable

  • Eliminate things that make you physically uncomfortable (sun in your eyes, restrictive clothing, sitting in an uncomfortable chair, etc.)

BONUS tips!

  • Speak up

    • People who share their ideas are perceived as more confident and charismatic than those who don't

  • Prepare ahead of time

    • Plan for a good question you can ask or a relevant tidbit you can share so you don't have to think on your feet

  • Practice

    • Implement these tips in your daily interactions until they become second nature
